About Chris

Chris Pierce is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) and National Certified Counselor at Connections Counseling Services. As a retired U.S. Army officer with 29 years of service and five combat deployments, Chris brings both clinical expertise and lived experience into his work. His personal journey through trauma, therapy, and rebuilding connection gives him a grounded, compassionate perspective on healing.

However you show up, you're welcome here. Chris practices from a person-centered foundation: you're treated as someone of full worth exactly as you are, not as a problem to correct. Whether your faith is central to your life, complicated, or something you've stepped away from — whatever your beliefs, gender, orientation, or background — you'll be met without judgment and the same amount of care.

From there, the work is whole-person: sleep, nutrition, nervous system regulation, and the developmental story underneath the symptom you came in for. Drawing on a master's degree in Adult Education, Chris teaches you how your own mind and body actually work — so you leave with self-reliance, insight and a path forward. Clients describe him as structured, practical, direct, and deeply validating.

Chris is the author of Self-Health Andragogy: A Self-Directed Learning Approach to Mental and Physical Self-Care, with several more self-care books in progress — including The Night Crew, a behavioral sleep guide for shift workers.

Chris has been married for over 26 years and is the father of five daughters — which, he'll tell you, has taught him more about attachment, regulation, and humility than any textbook. He's a lifelong learner with a deep interest in the mind, body, and human resilience. Outside the office he's in the mountains hiking and snowshoeing, under the hood of a vehicle, in the middle of a home improvement project, or writing. He's had an unusual number of lives — enlisted welder, combat engineer officer, counselor, author — and the through-line has always been the same: take something broken, understand how it actually works, and rebuild it stronger. Grit isn't a concept he read about. It's how he got here.
