What is betrayal trauma?
Betrayal trauma is the deep wound that can follow discovering a partner's sexual betrayal, infidelity, secret pornography use, or sustained deception. Many partners describe intrusive images, hypervigilance, difficulty trusting, anxiety, anger, grief, and a shaken sense of reality. These are normal trauma responses to an abnormal situation — and they deserve specialized, compassionate care, not minimizing.
You are not "too sensitive." You are reacting to a real injury.
Our approach
Connections clinicians use trauma-informed, partner-centered models — including CPTT (Certified Partner Trauma Therapist) training, EMDR and Brainspotting for trauma processing, and EFT for couples work. We treat betrayal trauma as trauma, not as a "communication problem." Care can include individual partner therapy, support groups, and — when appropriate — couples work, often coordinated with our sexual addiction recovery support for the addicted partner.
Our CPTT-trained clinicians have specific training in partner trauma from sexual betrayal. Our CSAT-certified clinicians specialize in sexual and pornography addiction — and many have dual training in both betrayal trauma and addiction, allowing coordinated care for the whole relationship.
What to expect
Your first step is a free 30-minute consultation to find the right clinician fit. Early sessions focus on stabilization and safety — managing acute distress before deeper processing. From there, we move at your pace through grief, boundaries, trust, and meaning. You set the goals; we walk with you.
Insurance & access
We accept Select Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), DMBA, and EMI Health, and we'll help verify your benefits. Care is available in Orem, Murray, and online across Utah.
